February 5: I ran up for the
day and managed to squeeze a twin mattress into the trunk of my car!
Went shopping over in Carson City - checked out Lowe's, a thrift store
(scored a brand-new crock pot!), Big Lots, and Borders. Bought some
faucet handles for the shower but they didn't fit.
February 12: Brought the kids up. Nana and Papa came, too! They brought my old white stove, a picnic table, another twin mattress, the kids' beds from IKEA, a dorm fridge, and tools! Dad, David and I dismantled that silly bar/counter structure that was separating the kitchen from the eating area. We got the stove switched out and we now have a functional stove! (And I'm happy to report that there was NOT a family of raccoons living in the old stove!) Bring on the Z-Pies!!! Dad and I ran to Nel's Hardware for stove parts and I got to meet the chocolate lab puppy who hangs out there. My kind of hardware store! The kids played in the snow a lot but the weekend was really about work. I brought universal fit faucet handles up this time, got the faucets working, and spent a very, very long time cleaning that disgusting shower. (God bless the inventor of the SOS pad) David proved himself to be EXTREMELY handy in assembling IKEA furniture. I could not figure the bed frames out and he whizzed right through 'em. And the best part: we all camped out in the cabin. Air mattresses everywhere! In just over 24 hours, we:
February 19: Party at IKEA!!! My parents met me at my favorite new amusement park and we spent a very fun day dreaming, dining, and shopping. I am so very, very grateful that my parents are as excited about our little cabin as I am! They are so amazingly helpful. We hit the "As Is" department first and I scored an 18 cubic foot refrigerator for $209. Woot!!! We bought all sorts of stuff for the cabin (including the best coat hooks, ever). We took everything to Folsom and then dad and I picked up my mattress set. We're all very excited about getting back to the cabin but the weather is looking pretty snowy for the foreseeable future...

- ripped out the snack bar/counter

- put in the picnic table

- got the shower clean and working

The kids were off school all week, so I played hooky on Thursday and we came up. We were greeted by several feet of snow in the driveway. So David and I started shoveling. And we shoveled. And we chiseled. And we shoveled. Nearly 3 hours later, our driveway was clear! David was absolutely awesome - I could never have cleared that driveway without him! Muscles I didn't even know I had were screaming this weekend.
We brought up the microwave oven and the IKEA bedside tables, which David assembled all by himself. We moved my air mattress up to the loft, which is always toasty warm, and we all slept up there. Best night's sleep I've had up here yet! It snowed pretty much all day Friday - not that it stopped the kids from playing outside! And I scrubbed the kitchen floor - which was disgusting. I had visions of scrubbing all the wood floors this weekend, but it's turning out to be a much tougher job than I anticipated.
I also had a chance to snuggle up in the loft with a good book. Heaven! We played cards and Yahtzee and Jenga and we've watched a couple of movies. The roads were clear on Saturday so we decided to dig the car out, beat the traffic, and head home. But we sure enjoyed the snow, the below zero temperatures, and mostly, the front yard toboggan run!
