Mother's Day Weekend
May 6-8, 2011: What a wonderful weekend! The kids and I headed up Friday evening - stopping at Z-Pie for some pot pies, of course! The kids were excited about the improvements, and we all piled into my bed to watch Brother Bear (with Rutt and Took's Commentary - hilarious!) The kids bought me Adirondack chairs for Mother's Day, and David spent the morning assembling the chairs and Carlie and I painted them. My parents joined us and we got a lot done: I transformed a tablecloth and a shower rod into cafe curtains for the dining area, put glass shades on the kitchen sink light fixture, and did some touch-up painting on the cabinets. Dad installed a new closet door track in the bedroom and the bi-fold door actually works, now! All the work the electrician did is amazing. The ceiling fan and light fixture dimmer control switch is sexier than the space shuttle - and about as complicated! And the kids have power and light and a smoke detector in the loft! Woot!!! Dad installed some new light fixtures in the kitchen and dining area. I sewed a little valance for the kitchen (which I think is too short) and we had great fun goofing off on the porch, tidying it up. The snow is almost completely gone and it's fun to think about the changes for the back yard.
We discovered a pair of chickadees are building a nest in the tiny space where the gas line comes in to the cabin. I will not disturb them. I like that chickadees are nesting in my cabin.
On Mother's Day, Nana, Carlie and I scoped out the Rural Squirrel and discovered Aspen Hollow - the cutest little gift shop, ever! I bought some trinkets for Mother's Day - including a little chickadee to set on my window sill.
