The old stairs...

Our temporary stairs were installed during escrow - very utilitarian, but they cut our tiny living area in half. They also had no handrails, we we spent a lot of time scooting up and down the stairs. Because we had no handrails, I was terrified at the thought of the kids carrying stuff up and down the stairs - so the "okie dumbwaiter" was born when we tied the basket to the rope. (The thing is so dang handy we'll never get rid of it - although I should get nicer rope!)
I looked for all kinds of solutions - a wrought iron ladder? Should dad and I "fix" the old stairs with a better incline, paint, and some hardware? I searched "log ladders" or something on Google images and I found the Country Neighbors website on eBay. I couldn't believe how beautiful and functional the ladders were - and I couldn't believe how affordable they were.
Patrick at Country Neighbors is one of the nicest people I have ever done business with. I inundated the poor man with photos and measurements. He was so patient - he answered every email personally and custom-crafted our stairs to hide the exposed carpet edge. I put a link to his website up above. He does some great work!
The new stairs look and function great. The handrails allow us to remain standing all the way up and down the stairs. They are so beautiful - they even smell great. I'm looking forward to decorating them at Christmas!
