Our Get-Away

I wanted a project. I wanted an investment. I wanted a place we could go
and have fun. I looked in Arnold. I looked in Pollock Pines. I looked
in Placerville. And I looked in South Lake Tahoe.
Most of the places within my price range were down-right scary. "Fixer" was putting it mildly! My friend Dave knows this fabulous lady named Ginger. Ginger is a real estate agent in Tahoe. We met on November 8, 2010 at the Blue Angel Café. She sat across a table from me and said, "I've found your house."
And she had. 3345 Ash Street, right in the heart of Bijou Pines. No one else knew about this house - the listing agent forgot to check the box that said "Make available to the public." I put in an offer right away.
Escrow took FOREVER. Many things had to be fixed before I could get funding, and because the cabin was a foreclosure, the bank wouldn't fix much. We had snow storms. Inspections. Appraisals. More storms. A power outage. Another appraisal. A recalcitrant title company. But none of these could defeat the unstoppable trio of myself, Ginger, and loan guy extraordinaire Danny Ponder.
We finally closed escrow on January 27, 2011. We have a get-away!

Even though we hadn't officially closed escrow yet, the kids and I went up for the day on January 16th to take some measurements and photos - and to go snow tubing at Hansen's Resort! We spent our first night at the cabin on January 28th. We headed up with snow clothes, sleeping bags, and cleaning supplies. I spent most of the weekend tackling the FILTHY kitchen but we did walk to the library, walk to Safeway, slide down some snow banks, and go ice skating.
